Claim requests
Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:
✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.
Format
✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.
✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.
Please note the following:
While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.
We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.
Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.
Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

My headcannon is that Curufin and Huan were affectionate but not anywhere near as close as Celegorm and Huan.
On the wording of the policy -- does that mean that Huan and Curufin can't interact at all? Or that they can interact occasionally? I mean in a direct manner, that is, one of them replying to the other's post or comment.
What about in an indirect manner? If they are both at Tol Siroin fighting the werewolves, they would certainly be aware of each other's presence! But for example, Curufin could yell "Huan!" if he needs help in a thread he's in, and Huan could show up to bite the doggies on the other team, but not reply directly to Curufin. He could interact with other characters in the same thread and ignore Curufin.
I was thinking that Huan could be MAD AT CURUFIN, and therefore unwilling to give him the old affection. He might be blaming Curufin for Celegorm's death in the attack on Doriath, and be in a permanent huff about that. Not entirely fair, but then, emotions aren't fair. (Huan died before Celegorm did, but probably Maglor would tell him what happened when he and Huan meet in the game, or some other Silmarillion character could.)

In situations like this, the characters should never interact "on screen" as in tagging each other, or addressing each other directly through group tags.
They can be vaguely aware that the other character is "around somewhere."
In the hypothetical situation of taking both character to Tol Sirion, Huan and Curufin would not be able to be a part of the same group thread, but could interact individually with each character separately. (i.e. Huan could talk to X character in one thread, and Curufin could talk to X character in a separate thread.) Being able to do this in a practical and IC way is a bit tricky at times.
If you can keep by these guidelines, we can work with you on getting Huan set up for game. How do you feel about this?

And I'm okay with the part about not interacting directly and not being in the same thread.
But I was wondering, when you say each could be vaguely aware that the other character is "around somewhere" -- I'm not sure what that means? I was definitely planning to take both characters to Tol Sirion. And each of them would certainly know that the other was on the same expedition. They couldn't be vague about that.
I can definitely manage it so that they don't address each other directly through tags, but are they allowed to notice each other indirectly and be somewhat aware of what the other is up to?

You would also need to avoid things like having them doing something "off screen" together. For example:
Like I said, it's tricky to pull off if they are part of the same group. My suggestion would be to not have them fight the same werewolf / group of werewolves at the same time.
Does that answer your question?

And it does sound tricky, but I will give it a try!
So if this is cool with you, then we can move on to power adjustments?
Revisions / Power adjustment
Re: Appearance changing - we've put limits on shape changing/magical disguises for other characters because it's such a powerful ability, including some of the Ainur.
The limit I'd suggest is that he can change shape/appearance only into other canine forms, which doesn't appear to contradict canon. (To my knowledge.)
Does that work for you, or am I misunderstanding the ability as you have it listed?
Re: Speech: We'd like to propose 30 instances of speech before death, and those instances should be saved for important or dire situations.
Regarding his understanding of languages, we would prefer if you stuck to the languages of Arda.
Re: Foresight - foresight will of course not be able to function in game, as we generally nix that overall.
Everything cool?

Questions on the other two? --
#1) Appearance changing: Does canine-form include wolf-form? Since the one onstage occurrence of appearance-changing was to a that of Draughlin the werewolf.
#2) Speech: Cool on the 30 instances and keeping it to important or dire situations. On his understanding of languages: Does that include the languages of the birds and animals of Arda? -- since that's a characteristic of Oromë's people and acolytes. (Which Celegorm and Huan are in canon.)

2) Yep, those beings are from Arda so it's kosher. It's things from other canons that we'd like you to avoid.
All cool?

And all is cool.
Approved!
Welcome to Arda Marred!
Your character is considered a canon character and will take a canon spot
Your character tag will be tolkien: the silmarillion: huan
Please reply to this comment with the journal you will use for this character while in game. After that, please check out this link for OOC and IC instructions.

Thanks!
And this is the journal I will use.
