Claim requests

Claims are currently open

Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:

✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.

Format

✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.

✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.

Please note the following:

While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.

We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.

Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.

Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

Thanks for your response! -- and sorry about the delay in answering. I do have a Plurk account and will add you, and hopefully catch you before too long. (EDIT: MY Plurk name is Tangyminx. I sent you a friend request.)

But meantime, I'm thinking through my ideas and especially my questions.

The basis for my adding the post-death experiences is this: I've been playing him for the past ten months as a character who has had time to think about his actions in his past life. His focus is now connecting with those he loves and making reparations to those he has harmed. I think this is actually consistent with the character as created by Tolkien, in potential. But in order to justify this change, I gave him that time to contemplate and explore -- while no longer being under the constraints of the Oath.

But in terms of possible solutions, let me ask some questions:

1) What if I just remove his post-death experiences from the character info post? Does the claim then become acceptable as a canon character claim request?

2) Or, what if I include some of his experiences from the PSL he's been in for ten months in my musebox? Can he then be considered a CRAU character? (It's not just a few threads, it's a whole game, although with only two players. 2383 comments, so far.) In that tale, he comes back to life without a clear memory of how this has been possible, but he will eventually remember. The post-death experiences are part of that story. So, would he get to keep them, if he also claimed other experiences from the PSL storyline?

Non-canonical AU character | Curufin | Tolkien | Not held

[personal profile] so_dark_a_road 2016-04-17 05:04 am (UTC)(link)

Character Name: Curufin son of Fëanor

Is this character a duplicate ?: No.
Briefly explain how this character differs from their canon counterpart (and other versions currently in game): When Curufin died, he refused the summons of Mandos and wandered as a houseless spirit. Eventually, he re-embodied himself without divine aid. But when Eru chose him and re-sung him into being in Arda Marred, Curufin's former ghostly nature was accidentally included as a dissonant part of the package, so to speak -- either by mistake, or simply because his case was a confusing one. Thus, though he will ordinarily manifest as a living being, he will also have episodes of reverting to ghost-form.

The canon Curufin shows only a few signs of being aware of just how far off the skids he has slid as a human being. My version of him knows; he has had a change of heart -- although he still has some of the same impulses that got him into trouble in the first place. But he has had time to think and process, and to consciously choose a different direction. He is no longer a thrall of the Oath, and he is seeking a meaningful life that is based on values far more human than the ones that destroyed him (and a lot of other people).

QUESTIONS:
1) Changes and additions made! Let me know if you need anything else?
2) Should I move this post to the "Canon AUs, Non-canonical AUs" section below? -- or leave it here?

Thanks much for your time and energy!

Thanks! I'm glad, too!

And I'm happy to be here! Looking forward to posting!

This is the journal I will use for Curufin in game.
