Claim requests
Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:
✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.
Format
✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.
✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.
Please note the following:
While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.
We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.
Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.
Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

age is updated, as is appearance of ears.
regenerative abilities clarified.
1. updated to include his shapeshifting forms; wolf, snake, and bat (werewolf and vampire in the text, but it's my interpretation that they just refer to a monstrously sized creature capable of speech rather than the classical lycan / vampir
2 / 3. updated with canonical explanation and examples of his sorcery, as well as headcanon for both his 'magic' and illusions. for sorcery, i'm settling for limiting it to defensive / deceptive abilities. any offensive 'magic' he'd have would have to be tied to his manipulation of the earth/stone elements.

Now for some power adjustment.
First, we have a standard set of Ainur restrictions:
Limits specific to your character:
Foresight - we've nixed this for other characters who have a similar ability, in terms of knowing the future. We'd allow Sauron to remember the past of his own Arda, from canon point, as this is the same condition we gave Vairë.
Re: shapeshifting - we're going to limit his forms to that of his canonical examples - wolf, snake, & bat. You'll still have more forms than Manwë though, so yay?
Re: Illusions - these illusions should be kept to things that are not Sauron's body, so no shapeshifting substitutes. Larger the illusion, more chances you will mess with the music . We would also ask that you list his illusion power on his Power Opt in post.
Lastly - because #Sauron - We have a Frodo in game with an active ring. We ask that you check out Frodo's info post, and contact the player to discuss how that is all going to work out. Right now the Ring is "less active" because Sauron has not been present in game. Feel free to contact us if you have questions while working stuff out.
That should be the last of it, fix that up and we'll be set.

updated with nixed foresight, limited shapeshifting, limiting illusions (canonically we have no evidence that he ever used them to make illusions of himself-- he only ever made an illusion of gorlim's wife to lure the man into the house so he could be captured, and theoretically done from a distance, so i'll consider this limited to 10 miles away as well?) and also added it to the opt-in post.
am currently contacting the mun with options on how to handle the ring issue (becomes more active, does not recognize sauron, etc). could he still arrive with a powerless ring? i'm also okay with nixing it entirely since he could feasibly have lost it in the water, so it's not really on his person at the time.

Things like mountains, lakes or valleys would fall under the no-no category. If it can be marked on a map, it's not a good idea. Special occasions can be arranged though!
I don't see why he couldn't arrive with a powerless ring. If you want to do something major with it and you're not sure if it's allowed you can always check back with us about it.
