Claim requests
Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:
✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.
Format
✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.
✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.
Please note the following:
While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.
We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.
Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.
Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

Revisions / Questions
First, we changed the "permissions post link" text to read "power opt-in," and "Opt-out post link" to read "Content Opt out." It's a small change but we're asking everybody starting July to use it.
Here are the standard Ainur restrictions, then we've got some questions / restrictions to work out.
Restrictions specific to Manwë:
1 - Manwë's form - So far the Valar + Melkor in game are confined to one body, so we would ask you to do the same. If you're not okay with this restriction, we can try to come up with another limitation. (The exception being while he's traveling on winds - but more on that below.)
2 - Traveling on the winds - Everyone with fast travel has a limit as to how far they can go. For Manwë I'd be okay saying around 11 to 13 days worth of foot travel per day, unburdened. (So one day Manwë travels on winds, he goes as far as a normal person goes in 13 days. With a passenger or something heavy, keep it between 6 and 7 days.) His form can change while he's using wind travel. (bird, cloud, or something like that) As an example, Deepwood to Lond Daer is 10 days.
3 - Eru being blocked off from him sounds great!
4 - Strength - we'll trust you to keep this reasonable.
Throrondor
He would be considered a non-essential animal companion co claim (wow that's a mouthful!) which means he counts as your two characters for the month, and would be the 4th character on your character total. You would be able to use him independently and have an additional username if you wish. He can fly at a similar rate to Manwë.
Finally, some questions!
I'm wondering how you envision mastery over birds working in game, can you tell me more about how you want to use that? Also, do you intend to use this potentially for bird player characters or character's pets? If so, we would need a Power-opt in post for that.
In canon there's a thing about while Varda and Manwë are together their sight and hearing is enhanced or whatnot. Were you going to use this at all? (assuming you're in contact with the Varda player, whose claim is pending?)
Revisions / Questions
1.) I am fine with him being restricted to one form. His form will be that of a tall Elven male with long white hair, eyes as blue as the sky and pale skin. He'll also have a penchant for blue/silver/white robes.
2.) I have also added that to his info post.
3.) Perfect!
4.) I won't go overboard with it. Manwë isn't obsessed with being mighty
like a certain brother of his.Thorondor - Fine by me! Do I need a separate info post for him or will what I provided be sufficient?
I imagine his mastery over birds isn't so much that he controls them, but that he can understand them and coax them into doing errands/telling him information. I do not think it extends outside of the birds present in Arda (so birds from other worlds will not be drawn to him or willing to listen to him unless the player wishes for them to do so). I would be happy to offer bird players/those with birds as pets the opportunity to work alongside Manwë if they wished. (In fact, I will add that link to his info post.)
Since his control is limited to 10 square miles, would it be possible for them to be able to see beyond that (even if they could not have any effect on what they saw)? I would be in contact with the Varda player if such an event cropped up/could prove interesting.
Re: Revisions / Questions
Thorondor's companion add-on to your post covers it! Do you want to use a separate username? I'll need to know asap.
I'm going to wait for the Varda player's answer and consult with the other mods before I make a decision on that. Normally, how far do you see his eyes usually being able to see, when compared to an Elf?
Re: Revisions / Questions
As for how far he can see, it depends on his vantage point. In the air, he could probably see the full ten square miles. Maybe that could be doubled if he was with Varda in the air?
Approved! (assuming you agree)
Okay to make it easy on the math, since we all know we're here to have a good time and not to take a math course, let's say that when Varda and Manwë are together, their senses are 50% better than their usual max.
So if Manwë can see typically 10 miles out at max power, with Varda within touching distance he can see 15 miles out.
For our purposes, 10 miles is going to be about 1 day's foot travel (not in Real Math TM, but just for us.), in case you need this information while looking at the map.
- - - If you're okay with those conditions, then...
Welcome to Arda Marred!
Your character is considered a canon character and will take a canon spot
Your character tag will be tolkien: the silmarillion: manwë &
Your character's starter location is Deepwood
Please reply to this comment with the journal you will use for this character while in game. After that, please check out this link for OOC and IC instructions.
Please use Manwë's tag when playing with Thorondor - the "&" signifies an animal companion.
When filling out the taken list form, just add a link to an icon for Thorondor as well, separately. We'll take the html from there.
