Claim requests
Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:
✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.
Format
✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.
✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.
Please note the following:
While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.
We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.
Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.
Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

Questions!
We've got just a few things to go over before we can give you the wonderful "approved" stamp:
Re: Dragon soul thing/ dragon language - How this affects her relationship with others (dragons, or anyone dragon sensitive, etc) is up to you and the player together. Make sure you discuss it, and this may differ from one player / character to another.
Re: lockpicks - just a reminder, if these lockpicks have no magical properties, they won't be able to open things with a magical/enchanted lock. If they *do* have such a power, check with the player who made the enchanted lock for permission to break the spell.
Re: Soul gems – She’ll be limited to the amount in her inventory, and not able to substitute anything in Ardra, however, occasionally the corsairs are able to get their hands on rare things!
Now for Conjuration fun!
First, it looks like anything to do with conjuration is going to mess with the music. We'd like you to use our music mechanic, if she attempts any of these abilities.
Re: Summoning - As you have guessed, trying to do this will fail.
Re: Reanimation - Had to do some thinking on this one, but here’s how I think we’ll handle this: She can raise nameless NPCs, but not player characters. If the NPC is related to an ongoing plot, please contact a mod first.
Re: Banish – yep, shouldn’t work.
Re: Command – If I understand you correctly this is just for spirits? In that case I think we can let you have NPC wraiths on this one, however the Houseless Elf Spirits would not be affected. If I’m not understanding that correctly, please tell me!
Re: Soul Trap – Oh boy, complicated! I had to take some time to research some claims we’ve had for characters with similar abilities, but I think I have an answer for you.
This will not work on player characters. However, we can allow her to capture “souls” of NPC orcs, trolls, goblins, and wraiths. These are corrupted souls, so what they’re useful for might be bad stuff. Normal NPC animals are also okay, but not Houseless Spirits. This particular ability will mess with the music quite a lot
ALTERNATELY, you can choose to nix any of the conjuration abilities that you wish, if you feel that’s less complicated for you.
How does that all sound to you?

Dragon Shit™, soul gems: No prob.
Lockpicks: They're entirely mundane and a sufficiently good normal lock could defeat her, never mind a magical one. Lockpicking's an optional mechanic in Skyrim, so there aren't many magical enhancements for it to begin with, and Aila hasn't got even those.
Conjuration: These all sound a-okay to me, and the music mechanic is fine. And yes, Banish/Command is only for summoned creatures. Since the Oblivion metaphysics don't map to Tolkien, the closest thing in AM is spirits and the like. Command is a high enough level effect (the tier just below maxing the skill) that I figured it might have a chance of working where a weaker one would fail.
Buuuut both those effects are above her ability to cast, anyway. Aila's a lousy conjurer. However, she could theoretically learn, and the entire school is oogy in a Tolkien cosmology, so I figured I should at least cover the possibilities. And hey, maybe someone will bring in an Elder Scrolls conjurer one day, and we'll already have solved it!
On a character note, Aila's clever, but not someone who sits down and thinks things over without being prompted, so the idea that a lot of Conjuration is shady hasn't worked its way into her thick Nord skull yet. If anything, I plan to use the whole issue for character development rather than simply improving her ability to kill things (which doesn't need a lot of help I mean really.)
This also reminded me of something that hadn't occurred to me until just now. Disregarding the enchantments, I specified her weapons as Daedric, which should almost certainly count as corrupted for Tolkien purposes--they're imbued with the essence of a slain demon. It wasn't intentional on my part; they're just the best non-DLC weapons in the game and Elder Scrolls morality is, uh, flexible. I'm willing to roll with her carrying evil weapons around and dealing with the side-eye (I mean look at that thing) or I could drop her down to the next lower, non-demonic tier, or kick her up to the DLC-only Dragonbone tier. Whichever seems best to you is fine with me.
Likewise, given the enchantment mechanics, would her enchanted non-Daedric gear read as corrupted, too? Would that be affected by whether the soul used was from an animal/magical creature or an actual human? Am I overthinking this?

Conjuration - It sounds like you know what you're talking about, so I think we can leave it to your good judgement as to how to handle this in relation to her ability and Tolkien canon. If you have any questions or are unsure if you can do something, feel free to give us a shout and we can work something out.
Re: Daedric weapons - ouch, yeah, that sounds like it would be in the evil-ish-feeling category. You're free to have her keep the weapons and have some people side eye, just make sure you make a mention of it somehow while you're doing threads, so that characters who are affected by them have a chance to react.
Her normal non-Daedric gear would probably feel okay in general, but if you are looking forward to playing out having most of her gear corrupted, We can say it can vary by what was used.
As long as you're cool with all that, editing your info post to include the agreed upon limitations would be all you have left to do. Sound like a plan?

she can trade it to a bad guy later, and just say her enchantments were done without any people involved so they don't read as particularly gross. She is supposed to be a heroic character and showing up to the vegetarian convention in head-to-toe fur (so to speak) isn't the best first impression.I've gone ahead and made the requested edits to her info post so we should be ready to party.
Thanks for you patience in letting me hash out my crossover mechanics at length. ;)
