Claim requests
Arda Marred does not require an application, but rather a character claim that still needs to be approved by the mods. This is a bit like the little sibling of an application: It is shorter and more aimed towards making it easier for other players to get the gist of your character. The audience of your info post is primarily other players. We do reserve the right to decline claims or request revisions before the claim is approved. To place a claim, the following is needed:
✦ The character may be neither held for someone else nor already claimed.
✦ They must have an info post on their journal that uses the info post form and seems acceptable to the mods.
✦ Be one of the allowed character types as listed on the FAQs.
Format
✦ In the subject line, please write: Character Type | Character Name | Canon | Held/Not Held
✦ Please use one comment for each character.
✦ If this is a re-claim of a dropped or idled character, please also write "re-claim" in the subject line.
✦ If you run out of subject line space, just continue the rest of the info underneath the in reply.
✦ To request a character with an animal companion co-claim please add a note in your reply, and whether or not that companion is essential or non-essential.
Please note the following:
While you are allowed to place a claim at any time, claims are only processed from the 8th to the 15th of any given month. Please try not to post on the very last day, because claims can take several days to process.
We have a hard max of three AUs of the same character. That means that there should be one canon spot always available, and three AU spots. These AUs must also be different from each other. We will be using time stamps to determine processing order during claims.
Due to the nature of highly varied character types, some claims may take longer than others because more than one mod has to look at them for whatever reason. If you are "skipped" please understand that you are not forgotten, we simply need to take more time with your claim.
Due to the nature of allowing so many different character types and duplicates, many times "judgement calls" have to be made in terms of what characters are allowed, not allowed, or need to be AU. Some situations are going to be tricky! Power adjustment, questions, and revision requests won't be uncommon. But never fear! We're here to help you get in, rather than keep you out.

Revisions
First, and most minor, please relabel “Permissions post link” to “Power Opt-in post link” and "Opt-out post link" to "Content opt-out post link".
Second, about the abilities…
As you guessed, the time travel option will be out.
Time control would however be possible if you wish to have it, as long as it is used very sparingly.
His visions will be limited to objects. It will be done by either asking a player about the object in question if it is theirs, or if he finds an object at any map site just ask a mod if there is a vision to be had. Please use this one sparingly.
Regarding Old Speech: Old Speech will be automatically mutually intelligible only with magical characters from worlds where a similar concept of “all magical beings have a common language” exists. For all other magical beings (for example Tolkien dragons) the general rule on languages applies (see below).
Regarding understanding languages: We discussed how to work with this in a way that wouldn’t potentially trouble other players (for example when there are languages that are kept secret by their speakers) and came to an opt-in solution that we’d like to offer you:
Will will be able to understand languages that are not English (or otherwise “normally learned” languages) or Westron, but only under the following circumstances: Inside an interaction in which all participants have given you permission to understand/speak the character’s language. Outside of such interactions (when alone or when a character who hasn’t given permission for this language is present) he will not be able to speak, write, read or understand “foreign” languages. Please add a question along the lines of “is it okay if Will knows your character’s language(s) when interacting with them” on your opt-in post.
Example: Will talks to Bob who has given permission: Ability intact. Will talks to Bob and Jenny, Jenny has not given permission: Ability broken. Will talks to Betty who has given permission for Swedish but not for Finnish: He’ll know Swedish but not Finnish. Will finds a book and is alone: Ability broken.
Lastly, we’d like to ask you how you will handle the following abilities:
"Spells using the virtues of different plants and animals" (Specifically, might this entail any kind of shapeshifting?)
"Cannot die" (What happens if he is beheaded/his body is destroyed?)

2.That all sounds good to me! Will tries to use his powers only when there is need, so limiting it won't be a problem.
3. Agreed. I edited the Opt-In Post to reflect the magical language.
4. I added the question on languages to the Opt-in Post. This is all okay with me. His ability with languages seems to be something he needs to will himself to use, so it should be easy to just have him not use it in conversations.
5.
Spells.
This is really two different questions. For plants, Will sometimes uses what he calls the virtues of plants. This seems to have a lot to do with symbolism. For example, mistletoe can prevent evil from entering a house and scarlet pimpernel can prevent a dangerous animal from attacking. Rowan cannot be used for evil purposes, Hazel can be used for healing
This ability will be limited here, because Will only knows how to do this with plants and trees that are the same as his own world.
Will's ability to use the abilities of animals is very vaguely defined in canon. It does not seem to be actual shapeshifting, but more that he uses the skills as himself. He is described as riding the wind like a bird or swimming through the water like a fish or running with the swift ease of animals.
Immortality
In Will's canon, it is impossible for Old Ones to die. But they may be injured or come down with illness. At one point his mentor explains.
When we live in the world... we feel and see and hear as humans do. If you prick us, we bleed, if you tickle us, we laugh - only, if you poison us we do not die.... But there is another more powerful side to our nature as well.
The question of what happens if an Old One is badly injured was never addressed in canon. But after a lot of thinking I think I have something that would work for game purposes.
At one point a character sees Will as a shining figure in a blaze of towering bright light. It is implied that this is also Will, just as the human boy is Will.
If Will is injured in a way that would be survivable in Arda Marred, he will have to heal like any other human. But if he is injured mortally, and his body is unable to survive he will revert to being a pillar of light for the same amount of time as any other character would take to return to life.
