The FAQ says this is the place to put monthly status effect ideas!

The obligatory transformation into a different species! Especially feathered ones! Must be represented in-game. People can concentrate and change back and forth so that those who're turning into normal animals don't have to put their lives totally on hold. but high emotion turns them back

Infectious powers! When two people touch each acquires a weakened version of one skill or ability (or physical trait?) belonging to the other. Either you can only have one of these at a time and each person you touch resets you, or you can go around collecting things and become ridiculously overpowered, idk.

The obligatory sharing of memories over the palantiri! Careful about picking yours up and looking into it. You know how these events work.

Nemesis! Another little glowing orb joins the sun and moon in crossing the sky and disappearing, though it goes north to south - and after a few days those two are either eager to meet the newcomer or pissed about it. Days become erratic as they pursue it. Eventually it crashes to the ground somewhere interesting, with a big flash of light. and I have no idea who or what's in there but it's probably not something you want the orcs grabbing first.

To clarify a point. an aged up AU of a book character is or isn't acceptable?

It depends upon the situation. If the age the character is not significantly present in canon, it would depend upon the AU. You would be "piggy backing" the age-up element onto the AU. (Assuming you mean an non-canonical AU)

This guide might be helpful in determining if your AU would be allowed.

Another monthly status effect idea, since I had fun on Plurk imagining it.

Eru finds out about dinosaurs and is delighted. Why aren't there dinosaurs on Arda? He'll make some! Out of a chunk of the wildlife and the people he's brought here!

make deer into small hadrosaurs and struthies and so on just so there'll be a good confused food source. Affected characters can be real dinosaurs or fake ones, scaly or feathery. Crocodilians and sea reptiles and pterosaurs are all good too! There may be need for mod permission for a few people to destroy their houses escaping.

Pros include maybe being really huge or really little and somehow still able to speak, and being really cool. Cons include lower dexterity, the need for more food, and lots of wtf.

Had some status effect ideas while chatting on plurk.

Truth:

Characters could pick from being forced to tell the truth for a period of time, or being transformed into their true self.

Age Changing:

Characters turn into their older or younger selves.

Just so you know, age changing is something that we are trying to avoid, as characters can enter the game as aged-changed AUs. That's not to say it will never happen, just that it's not something we're considering right now.
