As you might have figured, there's a number of things to be said about his abilities. Most of which are similar restrictions we’ve given to Will.
- Merriman will be capable of dying in Arda Marred. You can maintain that he will not die of age, natural causes or illness, but ultimately, he needs to be able to die.
-Old Speech/Languages:
Regarding Old Speech: Old Speech will be automatically mutually intelligible only with magical characters from worlds where a similar concept of “all magical beings have a common language” exists. For all other magical beings (for example Tolkien dragons) the general rule on languages applies (see below).
Regarding understanding languages: We discussed how to work with this in a way that wouldn’t potentially trouble other players (for example when there are languages that are kept secret by their speakers) and came to an opt-in solution that we’d like to offer you:
Merriman will be able to understand languages that are not English (or otherwise “normally learned” languages) or Westron, but only under the following circumstances: Inside an interaction in which all participants have given you permission to understand/speak the character’s language.
Outside of such interactions (when alone or when a character who hasn’t given permission for this language is present) he will not be able to speak, write, read or understand “foreign” languages.
Please add a question along the lines of “is it okay if Merriman knows your character’s language(s) when interacting with them” on your opt-in post.
Examples: Merriman talks to Bob who has given permission: Ability intact. Merriman talks to Bob and Jenny, Jenny has not given permission: Ability broken. Merriman talks to Betty who has given permission for Swedish but not for Finnish: He’ll know Swedish but not Finnish. Merriman finds a book and is alone: Ability broken.
-Timetravel will be out, other abilities that involve the control of time should be used sparingly; if they involve another character, you must get their player's permission ahead of using it. Please include a note to this end in your opt-in post.
- His maximum travel speed through enchantment will be 10 days of foot travel per day.
- Visions about the future will be limited to objects. It will be done by either asking a player about the object in question if it is theirs, or if he finds an object at any map site just ask a mod if there is a vision to be had. Please use this one sparingly.
- For all telepathic/memory powers, you'll need a note on your opt-in post.

Please structure your opt-in post so that it only contains the powers that people can/may actually opt into.
In the opt-out post, please be a bit more specific about the content that people might opt out of. Is it just the stabbity violence, or are there triggering forms of violence/other things that you might bring up?
Everything else looks good, so as soon as you edit your opt in and opt out and tell us if you're okay with the above restrictions, you are good to go!
