Revisions / Power adjustment

Hi BG! Sorry for the delay. Harry Potter magic gave us a lot to think about. First I'll bring up our standard set of HP magical restrictions:

As you know Harry Potter’s magic is rather vague and can be super powerful when measured against other canons. Because of this we had to set up a few guidelines for Harry Potter magic’s use in AM.

We might change these in the future if new information comes to light (HP canon is HUGE!), or modify them on a case by case basis.

General restrictions:

1) First, we ask that HP characters stick to known canon spells, and potions. (Basically no inventing new, unique spells with incantation, or new potion recipes. – Spell effects shown in canon but not specifically explained or incanted are generally okay as well.)

2) Wandless magic should be limited to small effects. (lighting candles, shutting a door, etc.), or effects demonstrated by your character in canon.

3) Apparition should be limited to places already visited by the caster, and at the max distance of 6 days-by-foot travel from point A to point B. Taking a “passenger” with you is not possible, unless the character is also a witch/wizard from HP.

4) Conjuring should be limited to objects that already exist somewhere fairly nearby. (You can conjure a plate of sandwiches that’s back in your house, but not make new ones from thin air.)

5) Some spells / abilities that affect other player character require explicit player permission, such as Transfiguration, and the 3 Unforgivable curses. Transfiguration and Imperio curse effects can last for a max of one day, and must be mentioned on your Opt-in post.

6) Healing spells must be limited to what your character has demonstrated in canon. (Healing potions have more leeway, depending upon how difficult it is to brew and other factors.) Any “instant” or “semi-instant” healing spell / potion requires player permission before using it on a character. Ask first.

We might be able to bend these rules for a special occasion, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Notes for Snape in particular:

Not all potions ingredients are available in Arda, but Snape is welcome to find suitable substitutes after some investigation and experimentation. (Since potions is really his thing.) Alternatively, he can order some specialty items from the corsairs.

Otherwise, if you could mention Transfiguration, and the 3 unforgivable curses individually (separately from the catch all) on your Opt-in post, we can get this done!
