Rules

MAINTAIN AN ENVIRONMENT OF RESPECT
It is expected for players to be civil to one another. This includes following basic roleplay etiquette and respecting the comfort of others. This includes but is not limited to labeling and using cuts for potentially triggering, nsfw or above PG content; communicating about limits and if necessary maintaining a permission post; and of course remembering that the person at the other end is a human being that should be treated as you wish to be treated. Out of character harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. You are highly encouraged to read The Do's and Don'ts for RPers at Arda Marred.

REMAIN IN CHARACTER
Stay IC: Remain true to what characteristics canon has laid out for your character, and failing sufficient canon/if you play an OC, stay consistent in their personality and consistent to the world, experiences, upbringing and culture that they come from. IC developments can change all that to a certain degree, but be reasonable.

BE OPEN TO COMMUNICATION AND FEEDBACK
As a game can hardly get anywhere without willingness to coordinate and communicate with other players, please remain flexible and willing to accommodate and cooperate with the mods and with other players in plotting. You are also encouraged to maintain a HMD post. Players are expected to resolve issues they have with other players with conversation and maturity.

DO NOT GODMODE/INFOMODE/METAGAME
No one player can control the actions of another player's character without that player's permission. Do not base IC decisions on OOC knowledge. Do not have your character magically know things that you know through having read another player's thread, having read the source material of something, and so on.

IC ACTIONS = IC CONSEQUENCES
If your character does something ICly, it will have IC consequences. This means on the one hand that if your character picks a fight with another character, that character's friends might be pissed at yours for a while to come, and you'll either not have them pick the fight or deal with the negative consequence.

IC OPINIONS =/= OOC OPINIONS
On the other hand it also means that just because a character attacks yours ICly, their player doesn't have to hate you; and that just because you have a fall-out with someone OOCly, your character shouldn't suddenly without reason decide that the other player's character is a huge asshole.

DO NOT BREAK THE FOURTH WALL
While Arda Marred is all about being flexible, this is one rule we insist on. Due to the nature of so many OCs, AUs, and etc, things would get messy if we allowed any sort of fourth walling, even with consent. For the comfort of all our players, let the fourth wall remain intact.

ALL PLAYER CHARACTERS MUST MAINTAIN AN INFO PAGE
The info page that is necessary to have a claim approved must stay public while the character is in game, and should be updated to reflect what is happening to them during their stay. For more information, check here.

What happens if you don't play by the rules:

If there's a concern brought to our attention that you haven't been following the rules and it's brought to our attention, we will investigate the issue. Should the situation merit it, an official warning will be given. This is your only warning. If the behavior continues, you will be removed from the game indefinitely.
